Attention fellow freaks!

This past weekend, by pure luck, I chanced upon a band called "The Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio" playing at the Green Parrot in Key West, Florida. To say that I had my mind blown would be an understatement! I'm ready to go on tour!!

Believe me when I say that this guy is the real deal--great voice, intelligent lyrics, and an F-ing amazing guitarist! Perhaps most of you already know about him, but I spend all my time listening to the Dead on archive, and very few bands come to south Florida, so I'm out-of-the-loop when it comes to new music. Regardless, this guys not new, his been around for quite a while, I was just unaware of him--turns out he was the driving force behind Col. Bruce & the Codetalkers.

If you love the Dead as much as I do you'll def. dig this guy--check him out before he blows up!!!!! Oh, and if you live anywhere around central Florida he's playing in the Tampa / Orlando area this upcoming weekend.

Daddy D, it was great to meet you and thanks so much for the kind words, and for hanging out and listening! We had an absolute blast playing down at The Parrot. Blade and I are scheduled for all of The Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio shows coming up. We all felt a real musical chemistry and are eager to continue on together.

Thanks again!

You can count on us giving our all, every time, for every show, my man. It's just the way we roll. Why do what we do otherwise? :)

There are several shows on the Archive from the band.

I'm giving this matrix a run for its money. So far so good. Thanks for the recommendation.

yea, the first thing that I did when I got back in the office yesterday morning was go to archive in order to check out his shows. Bad idea, as that's pretty much all I did yesterday--got very little work done, and here I am doing the same damn thing today!

Anyway, thanks for the "head's up" re the 1/13/10 show, though I had already listened to it yesterday, as it was the second highest rated show on archive!

Obv. I'm new to the BLR scene, but assuming someone adds last week's shows at the Green Parrot (I only saw the May 6th & 7th shows) I'll be interested to hear from long-time fans how those shows rate compared to other shows you've seen / heard. Quite frankly I cannot imagine that they are capable of playing like that on a regular basis. Again, I'm a total newbie, but from what I was told it was a relatively new lineup ("Blade" on bass & "Big Country" on drums, two cool cats from Asheville, NC) but IMO I saw something special, & it was evident to all that they blew it out & left it all on stage that night. In fact, I could relate some interesting stories about the night, but I don't think people would believe them. Suffice it to say that one woman literally "got off" on the music. I think she had a transcendent experience . . . I know I did! In fact, I enjoyed myself so much that I drove to Jensen Beach the following day to see them play @ a private party. Not sure if it was cool of me to show up or not, but in cases like that, I figure it's usually better to beg forgiveness than ask permission!

Anyone headed to the BLR shows this weekend in central Florida?? God-willing I'll be there!!

DD -

Glad to see you found Bobby. He comes to Virginia Beach 2-3 times a year. I first saw him back when he was with Colonel Bruce Hampton and the Codetalkers. Then Col Bruce got sick and had to stop touring so much and it morphed into Bobby Lee Rodgers and the Codetalkers. He went through a couple of lineups - bassist and drummer and for a couple of years was on fire. Check these shows out:

http://www.archive.org/details/ct2008-08-07.akg.414s.flac (Body In The Lake on this one is phenomenal)

This is one of my favorite shows. http://www.archive.org/details/ct2008-05-02.flac

DJ Williams (from The DJ Williams Projekt) sits in and blisters. DJ is worth checking out as well - ultra funky (http://www.archive.org/details/DJWilliamsProjekt)

Bobby and his wife had a baby about a year and a half ago and he cut way back on his touring.

Haven't had a chance to see the new lineup, but every show I have been to has been over the top.

Have fun listening.
